The Advisory School Boards in the Lower Kuskokwim School District are an essential and important component in the provision of a quality education to the students of the district. Just as the District Board develops and adopts policy for the District, the ASB develops and adopts policy for the school(s) under its governance. At both the District and local level the adoption of clear, written policy is extremely important. Although policies and other decisions are part of the ASB member’s role, the most important function of an advisory school board is to be the liaison between the community and the school. ASB members understand the mission of the school and are in a unique position to be key communicators within the community.
